Chalcedony is a microcrystalline variety of quartz that occurs in a translucent or waxy form, composed of fibrous growths of silica. Unlike large quartz crystals, its structure is so fine that it is not visible to the naked eye, giving it a smooth and often botryoidal appearance in a wide range of colours.
