Calcantite is a secondary mineral that forms in the oxidation zones of copper deposits, often in arid climates or in mines protected from moisture. It belongs to the triclinic crystal system and is notable for its habit of growing as stalactites, crusts or fibrous masses. Its most striking feature is its deep green or sky-blue colour, which is due to its high copper content.
