Rhodonite is a manganese silicate mineral distinguished by its characteristic pink or reddish color, often with black streaks or patches of manganese oxide that give it a unique appearance.
It forms in manganese deposits through metamorphic and metasomatic processes. It belongs to the triclinic crystallization system, and its crystals are often prismatic. However, it is more commonly found in massive form, where it is cut and polished for ornamental and jewelry use.
Its name comes from the Greek word "rhodon," which means "rose," in clear allusion to its vibrant color.
