Agate geodes are rock cavities, usually of volcanic origin, lined internally with concentric layers of chalcedony. They are distinguished by their vibrant coloured bands and unique banded patterns, formed by the gradual deposition of silica.
When opened, they reveal an interior that may be hollow, filled with solid agate, or feature a core of quartz microcrystals. Highly prized for decoration and collecting, they stand out for their astonishing variety of colours, their hardness, and the hypnotic contrast between their rustic outer shell and their polished or crystalline core.
