Copper in 5x5cm boxes

Origin: Lake Superior, Michigan (USA)

SET OF 35 UNITS

This curious form of native copper is created by pouring copper at 1200 degrees Celsius onto straw soaked in water. As it integrates with the straw, this unique shape is formed, solidifying with cold water. This copper is found on the Keweenaw Peninsula in Michigan, United States.

Lake Superior copper in Michigan is known to be a native type of copper, meaning that it is found in its pure, metallic form directly in nature, rather than being mixed with other minerals like most copper in the world.

This characteristic made it very valuable historically, as it did not require a complex smelting process to extract the metal. It was formed in very ancient volcanic deposits, making it a geologically unique and very pure material.
