Chalcedony is a variety of microcrystalline quartz with a fibrous structure, known for its translucent appearance and waxy lustre. It usually forms in cavities within volcanic rocks, appearing in botryoidal forms and a wide range of colours. With a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, it is a key mineral in jewellery and collecting due to its great durability and natural beauty.

Rock crystal is the purest variety of hyaline quartz, composed of silicon dioxide free from impurities and completely colourless. It is characterised by its hexagonal prismatic crystals of absolute transparency and vitreous lustre, originating in hydrothermal veins. Due to its hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, it is an essential piece in both gemological collecting and high-quality ornamental applications.
