Origin: Afghanistan
Size of the pieces: between 10-20 cm approx.
Lapis lazuli is actually a mixture of lazulite, calcite and pyrite. It belongs to the isometric system and is classified in the silicate group. It belongs to the sodalite group and is found as a metamorphic contact mineral.
Lapis lazuli is a decorative rock, many figures are carved and various cabochons are made for jewellery.
The lapis lazuli par excellence comes from Afghanistan, but special mention must be made to the one from Chile and the USA.
