Staurolite, belonging to the monoclinic crystallisation system and to the silicate group, is a metamorphic mineral formed by regional metamorphism, from garnets, micas, kyanite and other minerals. Its name comes from the Greek stauros (cross) and lithos (stone), in reference to its natural cross shape.
