Smithsonite is a zinc carbonate mineral highly prized for its botryoidal (cluster-like) habit and its spectacular range of colors, which vary from sky blue and apple green to pink and yellow. Historically known as “zinc spar,” it crystallizes in the trigonal system and has a vitreous to pearly luster with a hardness of 4 to 4.5 on the Mohs scale.
