Quartz is the most abundant mineral in the Earth's crust, found in acidic igneous rocks such as granites, granodiorites, diorites, quartzites, etc., in pegmatites, hydrothermal, metamorphic, alpine-type veins and sedimentary rocks. It belongs to the trigonal crystallisation system and has a very characteristic morphology: hexagonal prism plus pinacoid.
